THE LATE SIR JOHN HALL.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent i CHBISTCHURCH, this day. In most of the Anglican churches yesterday, feeling reference was made to the death of Sir John Hall. At the Cathedral the Bishop said the gifts and opportunities by which Sir John Hall obtained his high position and influence were more within the reach of ordinary men than was usual in the case of those who had done so great work. The example of his life was therefore the more helpful and full of encouragement. His was not the brilliance of unusual gifts, but rather a life marked by the use of gifts and opportunities which, in a measure are given to many. His infinite capacity for taking pains, perseverance and steadfastness in devotion to the service of God and man —those were the qualities that entitled him to the place he held in the history of New Zealand and in the hearts of its people.
