THE BOOT TRADE AND THE TARIFF.
(By Telegrapn.— Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Considerable public attention is likely to be focussed on the condition of New Zealand boot maufacturing trade, when the tariff comes on for readjustment. A deputation of Christchurch boot factory employees intends waiting on the Minister for Labour next week, to lay before him the condition of the trade. They are ready to demonstrate by fig,_res, said to be beyond all doubt, that competition by imported boots has had so severe an effect upon the local industry that the mens' annual earnings only average £90.
