TRANSVAAL PROSPECTS.
Effects of Repatriation. PRETORIA, June 28. In receiving a deputation of strikers, General Botha, Premier of the Transvaal, refused to promise a Compulsory Arbitration Bill, ,on the ground that it could not be retrospective, and therefore would not affect the present strike. LONDON, June 28. Renter's Johannesburg correspondent states that the principal mining and other business houses are retrenching, in view of the forthcoming repatriation of Chinese. Land and house property has considerably depreciated, and the whites employed on the Rand have decreased by 2000 owing to the strike.
