THE IRISH EVICTIONS.

An Important Bill. LOKDON, June 28. The Chief Secretary for Ireland (Mr. Augustine Birrell) has introduced a bill in the House of Commons to enable the Estates Commissioners to compulsorily reinstate 2000 evicted tenants, compensating the c.-xi sting tenants who are to be disturbed, or transferring them to other land.

It is estimated that 80,000 acres are required. The cost of reinstating tenants and of equipping untenanted land will be borne by a reserve fund of f 175,000, and thereafter by the Land Commission's vote. Irish Unionists calculate the cost of relieving 2000 evicted tenants at nearly £2,000,000. They fear this will fall upon the Land Purchase Fund. The " Morning Post " states that Mr. Asquith, with a view to relieving the deadlock, has arranged that the National Debt Commissioners shall advance the Irish Land Purchase Fund £6,000,000 to enable the Estate Commissioners to complete purchases already agreed on, henes the issue of Irish land stock at the present low rate will be avoided.
