MAD WOMAN'S ECAPADE.
Climbing through a fourth storey window of a house in Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill, London, on Wednesday, May 15, a woman, apparently about 40 years of age. sat on the sill, and with her feet dangling in the air, proceeded to address the crowd which rapidly gathered in the street Uplow. The occupants of the house were helpless, for the woman loudly threatened to jump off if anyone came near her; while the police, who were summoned, were undecided whether to call the fire escape or give the lady time to grow weary of her airy and perilous position. Soon the street in front of the house became blocked by the crowd, and the police had to telephone for reinforcements to maintain order. it was eventually decided to send to the nearest station for a fire escape, and on its appearance the woman suddenly became alert, and, as the firemen lowered It towards the'window, she hurriedly scrambled inside and slammed down the casement. The police, who had sent for a doctor to examine her, went into the house t-i secure her, but found she had barricadr-d herself iv the room, and the door had to be battered in before she could be examined. The doctor certified her insane, and ordered her removad to the asylum. Tho woman, whose name is Murray, Is said to be the wife of an Admiral, and lived for some time In Australia. Earlier in the-day. it seems, she had threatened to commit suicide by throwing herself from * balamj* ■c the back of tie house. - .
