LETTER BOXES IN HOUSES.

(To the Ecator.) Sir,—l am pleased indeed tq> see tuat the Chief-Postmaster of Auckland has taken up the matter and placed it before the City Council. I have spoken to many postmen with regard to universal letter boxes in houses, which they all advocate. At present they are constantly kept waiting at the doors with a heavy bag of mails on their shoulders, and a great deal of time is lost through it. I hope the Council will agree to a by-law compelling owners to put boxes in.—Yours, etc., SYMPATHY. CHEAP FOOD. (To the Editor.) Sir,—The Hon. S. T. George suggested the removal of the duties on wheat, flour, and potatoes, and to this he might have added all kinds of biscuits. I would suggest a heavy export duty on gold to fill the gap.—l am, etc, WATER CRACKER.
