WAIHI NEWS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, Tuesday. A special meeting of tbe Miners' Union was held last night to consider Mr. W. Humphries' demand for legal expenses incurred in connection with a claim that he recently made again.-i the Union. After details were gone Into r_e claimant withdrew his demand, _ud the case was amicably settled. Mr. E. J. Reaks. acting Government veterinary, and Mr. Lyons, veterinary in charge of the Auckland district, arrived here last night, and visited the local abattoirs to-day. Subsequently the visitors left for Thames. Mr. H. Langdon. enginedriver for tho Waihi G.M.Co.. who is leaving for > "*3t Australia, was entertained by t_e EJ*-re- - drivers' Association, and presented with a travelling bag as a mark of esteem. At a meeting of the committee of the Pride Waihi Lodge of Drnids. it was decided to hold a basket social, and to award handsome prises for the best basket and the basket realising the highest price.
