DEVONPORT .WESLEY GUILD. The usual meeting of the. Devonport Wesley Guild was held last evening "in the Methodist Schoolroom, when Mrs. Armitage presided over a large attendance of members. The Birkenhead Wesley Guild" was represented by MlssesLock, Hammond, Hadneld, Uxahame, Messrs. Cook, Hadfield, and Push. Under the heading of "Which is the Greatest Invention?" papers dealing with "Chloroiorni," "The Sewing Machine," "Gunpowder," "Steam," "The Wheel," "The Printing Press," and "The Alphabet" were read by Misses W. Johnston, lna White, N. Geise, M. Butler, B. Roberts, A-. Blackweli, and B. Johneton. The articles were well written, and proved to be of a high standard. Favourable criticism foliowed, in which Mrs. Shepherd, aliss Lock, the Key. S. Griffiths, Messrs. E. Roscoe, L. Kent, C. Johnston, H. Clist, B. Kessell, V. Kent, R. Cook, S. Smith, and F. Pugil took part. On the question being put to the meeting, a majority of 19 hands resulted in. favour of "Chloroform" as being the greatest invention of the Nineteenth Century.
ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS.
The half-yearly meeting of Court Pride of Onehunga, No. 5201, was held lv the Foresters' Hall last night, when there was a large attendance of members. Bro. Thos. Howe, C.R., presided, there being seated on the dais, Bro. J. Sticbtmry, U.T.. and -Bro. T. G. Codlin, P.D.C.K. and founder of the Conrt. Bro. Harding of Court No. 397S was also, present During the evening three candidates were initiated, and. three propostd for membership. The election of officers for the ensuing term was proceeded with, and resulted as follows:— " C.R;, Bro. F. C. Marts; S.C.K., Bro. C. H. Simmons; S.W., Bro. H. K. S. Walker; J.W., Bro W. J. Collodge, P.C.R.; 5.8., Bro. ,T. H. P. Tapp; J. 8., Bro. T. H. Tapp; auditor, Bro. C. H. Skinner, P;C.R.; Press reporter, Bro. F. W. Walker, P.C.R.; delegates to July D.M., Bros. J. ShaldricU, P.D.C.R., and F. W. Marks, C_R. The installation then took place, Bro. J. Stichbury acting as installing officer. During the evening the new dais was used for the first time, and was greatly admired. Votes of thanks to the outgoing officers, especially 1.P.C.R.-Bro. T. Rowe, were adopted, j the latter to receive the honours of the j office. After routine business had been transacted, the Court was closed lor harmony.
