OTAHUHU NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent) The historical drama, "St. Patrick, Apostle of Ireland," was ably given by the members and friends of St. Mary's Cathedral Choir on Monday night, when there was a good and appreciative audience. The proceeds are to be divided between the organ fund of St Mary's Cathedral and the new Anglican Church -Fund for Otahuhu. The scenery, which was painted by a Parnell lady, helped to describe the events in a realistic manner, as well as did the 'musical illustrations ably rendered by a choir of about 20, under the baton of Dr. Thomas. The cast was as follows:—St. Patrick (Apostle of Ireland), Mr Hector McQuarrie; Calpui'nius (St. Patrick's Father), the Bee. H. R- Jecks; Conehessa (St Patrick's Mother), Mrs W. B. Thomas; Alba (St. Patrick's Nurse), Miss M. Cooke; Victor (St. Patrick's Guardian Angel), Miss Cooke; Milchu (St. Patrick's Master), Mr Harold Bardey; Dichu (an Irish. King), Mr A Fairburn; Swine Herd (Olefin's Servant), Mf Mbwbray, Laeghaire (King of all Ireland), Mr Douglas Mowbray; Arch Druid, Mr Herepath. Choir of angels, sailors, priests, Druids, etc. Miss Kent acted as pianist, and the performers were entertained to refreshments by the Otahuhu ladies. Messrs L. Motrin and A. Waddell had kindly assisted in .fixing the scenery. The Otahuhu Mutual improvement, bociety had a very successful meeting on Monday the subject far the evening being '•Parliamentary Night." Mr. R. Todd presided. The mutual room, had been arranged to resemble, as near as possible, the House of Representatives, having Government and Opposition benches, Speaker's chair, and ladies' gallery. Mr. T. W. Phillips was elected Speaker. Mr. J. Muir was the Premier; and Mr. A. Sturgess the deader of Opposition. The Premier introduced a bill, viz., "That military training should be compulsory in the which was strenuously opposed by the Deader of the Opposition. Those speaking for the Government were Messrs. H. Todd, E. Dick, H. Andrew, and J. Tram; whilst those for the Opposition were Messrs. West and Hy. Hall. The House divided, and the second reading of the bill was lost by one vote.
