RAGLAN NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RAGLAN. June 7. A start, has been made to pull down the old building by the successful tenderer for the erection of the new Courthouse and Police station. Now that the new valuation rolls are available, the Council intend to take the necessary steps to raise the proposed loans in the Whaingaroa and Karioi ridings. The rates will, of course, be reduced in proportion to the increased valuation. At a well-attended and representative meeting, held at Te Mata on Tuesday last, it was decided to form a minature rifle club. Mr. H. T. Gibson, convener, explained that Captain Norton (Raglan Mounted Rifles) had offered to provide Morns rubes and ammunition, provided that all members become members or honorary members of the Raglan Mounted Rifles. It was decided to accept the offer. A committee was appointed, consisting of Captain Norton, Sergeant Donn. Quartermaster-Sergeant Saunders, Trooper Corns, and Messrs. A. Jerome. P. Watkins, and H. T. Gibson, secretary and treasurer. It was decided to await further information from the Defence League before commencing the erection of targets, etc., also to request the loan of rifles and targets for the use of a squad of schoolboys, who, under their teachers' guidance, will be taught the rudiments of shooting. The latest addition to the busiuess quarter of the town is a handsome and imposing structure in Bow-street which has Just been erected for Mr. Curtis by Mr. Haisman. The building has a 28ft, frontage with a depth of 55ft.
