Judgment was given at Thames yesterday in Ihe case against .James Montgomery, licensee of the Exchange Hotel, charged with a breach of the licensing laws in having had his premises open for the sale of liquor and exposing liquor for sale on the evening of Sunday, May 12. The magistrate stated that he had inspected the premises since the hearing of the ease yesterday to ascertain the position of the passage aud slide referred to. and having carefully considered the evidence, ho was of the opinion that there was a doubt as to the evidence re--1 lating to Irwin having been present at ! the slide -when the liquor was exposed. iHe thought, however, that the custom of i serving boarders at the bar at prohibited [ hours was reprehensible, anj by so doing I licensees made themselves liable to prose- | cution by the police.
