The case of a young man, of Ohiaruhe, .Cartertou, attacked by actinomycosis (states our Wairarapa correspondent), is said by veterinarians to bo tue first in which a man has contracted the disease in New Zealand- Teal is a farm labourer, and it is supposed ho became : infected from cattle. So far there aro ; only t.wo cases on record in which a ' niau has contracted the disease by j rect infection from cattle. These eases' are recorded by the scientists Stelznor and Hocker, and in each of them the. subject was a man in charge of cattle suffering from actinomycosis, the tv- i inonrs of which were suppurating. The disease is of a fungoid nature, and probably gains entrance to the system through the medium of wounds or abrasions. In the case of this man, the growth is perceptible in the neck, and ho has i beon. conveyed to Carterton, where he is being attended to by Dr. Bey. An operation' will be necessary to remove the growth, and the wound will then bo treated by iodide of potassium, which is much used in these eases by veterinarians. Football.
