SEW YOBK, May K. Thft anti-Japanese feeling in San Francisco has led recently to a number of attacks by the lower section of the- community on the Japanese restaurantkeepers of the city. ! The United States Secretary of State (Mr Root), referring to these outrages, has requested the Governor of California to protect the Japanese, and to see that j the treaty between Japan and the United j !States is enforced. ; Although advices from ToMo state I that the Japanese do not attach cardinal importance to the attacks on the res-taurant-keepers, yet these ou bursts of racial antipathy have aroused indigna:ion there. Baron iaayashi (Japanese Minister for boreign Affairs) has directed Viscount Aon.l (Japanese Ambassador at Wash- j ington) to demand protection for the; Japanese in the Uniied States. ■
