THE GOLDFIELDS.
TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) • WAIHL this day. \ Operations at the Talisman Consolidated Company's JUinc, Karangahake, continue to be attended with considerable success, "especially at Xo. 13 level, wherethe Bonanza chute of ore is being opened up on the southerly trend of thejode. It will be remembered that when the point was reached where the underlie of the lode should have been met. but was not, the management decided to advance southward upon a leader intersected iv, an earlier stage of the work. Varying result* were met with along Hie coui'3e of this load, and good and poor results were encountered, until the vein has now widened out to Gft of high-grade ore, with the west wall still hidden. The value of the ore is stated to be about iSi per ton. . This is. indeed, very satisfactory., and proves that good values tra existing on the downward continuation of the lode. A large amount of crushing material is also being won from the stopes at the back of Xos. 8 and 10 levels, and generally speaking the prospects of the mine have been greatly improved by the important developments at the lowest levels, which, it may be interesting to
" Star "' readers to know, is fully 2000 ft below the outcrop.

MIKE MANAGERS' REPORTS.
Sew Monowai.—The suction gas engine foundation lias been completed for some days, and tie enzlne is resting thereon. All should be finished within a fortnight, when crushing can start. The contractor has delivered 190 tons of quartz at the batter.r.
Tairua Broken Hills.—Sloping bas been carried on as usual, and tv« ore being won la ft a Rood payable nature. The rise Is up V.tt. The reel at tbe back of the rise is still olt wide, and gives good payable prospects. The maiu low crosscut lias been extended 140 ft.
■VVajoiaui.—The drive south on the cross roof at No. G level has been stopped, the reef showing nn Improvement. The stopes on the footwall dropper continue to show poiirl dubs and colours of gold. Stoping on the main reof is nlso in hand, the fourth etbpe being carried 3flft west of No. 1 winze, and the reef feeing about 10ft In width. The prospecting crosscut south of tiie inahi .sli.ift is In a distance of 86ft. but as vet 110 reefs have been cut. The crosscut' north of the maiu shaft Iras been resumed, and Is in a distance ol 255 ft, and is still penetrating the reef, the quartz being now of a more compact nature. Cure reef: The fourth stope west of the rise is being continued, and lias been carried 47ft. Curing the wceli 31b of good stone" hns been selected. No. 3 t-evel: The drive into the footwall on the cross reef is being continued, and is In a distance of 35ft. In some small threads of quartz crossing the face (folours of gold liave been seen. The leading stope east of No. 4 rise is in hand, colours of gold being seen in the quartz broken. Tiie stupes oast of No. 2 winze "ing dirt. The seventh slope" has been carried cast of Xo. 1 winze f« a distance of r.lft. The eighth slope on the rich run lias been started east of No. 1 winze, nnd as wired on Saturday lTOlti or picked Slone have lieen secured, maktug a total Ocwt Sl!b. Driving west on tbe main recT from the north crosscut is being continued, aud is In h distance of 224 ft. ' There is, however, nothing fresh to report fronj this face. No. ,i level: Driving east on tile main repf from the north-east drive Iβ iv band, and is in a distance of 92ft. The quartz Is of a kindly nature, bnt no gold has been seen. Stoping above this level on the main reef is being continued, and good daba and colours of gold have been eeen in the qq.irtz broken. Cure reef: The drive west on I his reef is now in a distance of 2Sft. from the rise. The roof of the old uorth crosscut has been cut down for a distance of G-Ift from the shaft, and the country Is now much easlor. and better progress will be made. No. 3 level: The Kinking of the No. 2 winze In the western end is lv hand, and is down a distance of sft. The reef here is abont 3ft in width, and shows good mineral indications, and the quartz broken is of a payable character. Cleaning up for the month will take place on Saturday next. Bonanza.—The crosscut is in 310 ft. The formation of pug nnd grit mentioned last wcel; has given place to n small leader, In which a little blende has been seen.' In the eastern drive a portion of the reef has been broken down, and on the liangingwall of the same the quartz looks very well aud is carrying splendid mineral, indications.
Old Kapanga.—The drlre from the bottom of the wluze Is in J!4ft. TUerc is no change. Wo lowered the pomp 10ft ou Tuesday, and since then the water bna been taken clown to the chamber of the 300 ft level, which enables us to get aloug the drive 500 ft. The air here is very bud, but there Is a pr.od current of air coming through the Cororaauflel shaft, which should clear it out iv two or three days. In the meantime we trill lower the pump further.
New Dart.—The quartz left In the passes The cleau-'up eh era Id take place about Tuesday. I am sorry to say that up to the present It is nut shaping for o payable return. The engine will be put luto position next week and the necessary conueetions made. ■yVaitanci. —The main crosscut at the low level is still beiug continued, to intersect the main reef, and the country in the face is becoming of a harder nature. Severe more small quartz stringers showing a little cold liave been passed through during the week. In the drive west nu the new reef a total distance of 26ft has been driven from the crosscut. The reef is about ISiu iv thickness in the face, carr.v----ln" good mineral, but no gold has yet been seen in it. In the surface level a total distance of 147 ft has now been driven, and nccordlug to tae survey the reef should have been to hand during the past week. The distance wa«, however, tiased on the known underlie of the reef at No. '1 level, and any alteration between the two levels would cause it to >)e further In the wall at the surface level, which has evidently occurred. The country in the face Is still of a favourable description. Trafalgar.—ln the crosscut the country continues to be of a most favourable nature, both for speedy progress aud for carrying gold-bearing reefs. As we are now within 20ft of being directly under the upper level, the reef may be met with at any time. Moanataiari Extended.—During the week work has been confined to rising ou the main reef from the back of the surface level. This rise is now up 10ft. aud the reef is more compact and defined than in the drive. At present we are shooting out ■4ft of the haugingwall portion, which is composed of % nice kindly-looking quartz, jriving n fair dish prospect. Kurauai.—ln the intermediate level the drive on the Shotover leader lias now been' driven 56ft east of the Shotover shaft. The leader has taken a idovk uortherlv course, which will brjng it over to the footwall leader. If they junction further ahead they should form a gopd-elstec! leader and should make gold at that poiut. Pootwal! leader X.o. 1 stope west has been exteuded 10ft, making the- total length west of the rise 46ft. The leader at this end averages about 12in in width, and, although It does not fehow as much.gold as at the eastern end, it is still producing a fair amount of payable dirt. ■ No. 2 stope has been ex■exteetoi 36ft east-vf tie rise. The iwwter..
is still standing good in the face, although it -does not look- quite co promising as it (lid. It will most likely improve in the nest stope. We have just completed a crushing of 50 tons of ore from this leader for a return of 40oz Gdwt melted gold. South Kapanga.—Tile main drive has been extended 19ft, which is now in S9ft frcfli the rise. The north, drive has been extended flft on the leader and is now in S7ft. The country has heen somewhat drstiirtjeil and the leader has liceu knocked about, but there is a nice-looking body of ore in the face just noy.- and the country rock is also of a better description than what we have been meeting with for somi time.
Southern Qneen. —At No. 2 . level the quartz from the Atlantic reef is of .1 kindly description, containing zinc blende and iron pyrites. Colours of gold were also seen in the quartz. The winze on the Blue reof at the same love! is down 41ft. The reef is small, but has a tendency to open out at the bottom. The quartz shows a little sold, and the country is all that could he desired. The Bine reef at Xo. 3 level avprages 20in in thickness, and the qnartz looks well, but so far no gold iias been eeen. When Ihe drive where the best gold was got at Xci. 2 level is reached the manager expects to get payable ore bodies.
Halcyon.—Mr E. P. Adams has laid off tho course to drive from the new crosscut, duo south-east. He estimates that about 25ft of driving should cut the reef. After driving 9ft on the course laid out, a reef was tapped, which is now being stripped. The low level to intersect the new reof :s ia 37ff.
New Waitekauri.—Tl)e line connecting Hie hopper with the battery is finished, and the ground tram Is being pushed ahead as speedily as possible. On this line three deep gullies are being fllled with, boulders and earth.
VietoH.i.—The drive at Ko. * leve , on the reef hUlward is in 31ft from the crosscut. Cutting through the reef started in the early paVt of the week. The stone for the first 4ft is solid quartz. In the end at present the formation is stringers ami ribs cf sandstone. Tile quartz in tliCße stringers has a kindly appearance, trat so far no gold has been emm. Tho only work done in the rise east of the hreak last week was lireakine down the quartz. A few colours of gold were seen in the stringers on the hangingwall.
North Auckland Minerals. —The manager reports tnat ne fias about S tons of stone in hand. The winze is down 26ft, and a drive -will be put in from outside for 120 ft to get to the bottom of the winze and save labour in Hauling up the 26ft. The formation, where cuti is 17ft in width,, ,and lie Is not right through the wall. The lease of G block has been passed, so the company now holds three sections, one of SS acres, another of 193 acres, and G block, ?,6G acres 3 roods and 4 pereboe. The lease is subject to (he right of the Maori owners to reside on G block. The directors have decided to issue 200 shares at 5/ on application, present shareholders to have first I rlslit.
