RAGLAN NEWS.
(From Our Own correspondent.) RAGLAN, Tuesday. A meeting of those interested in the • sports was held on Saturday evening last : at the Harbour- View Hotel Dr. Sanders , presiding. There was a large attendance. It was decided to hold the gathering on New Year's Day, and a committee of 2i names -was formed, with Mr. Darrow as see- : retary and treasurer. Bishop Neligan Iβ to open the new St Paul's Anglican Church at Te Uku on Thursday next. Should the weather be favourable, it is anticipated a large number will journey from all parts of the dis trirt. At the last meeting of the Raglan Connty Council, the engineer reported upon the condition of a number of the Council's roads, with recommendations. He thought a commission should be set up to apportion the cost between the Council arid the Pukekohe Road Board respecting the TuakauRaglan. road. The following authorisations had been received from, the Roads Department to date:—Tuakau bridge to Waingaro. £85; Opotorua bridge approach, £100; Otorohaea Trig road, £100; Awaroa River snagging, £50. It was decided to support the Paiko County Council In aetins .that the Waikato be represented on the Auckland Harbour Board. In reply to a request that the Council might be authorised to deal with mining rights for coal under the roads, and that the receipts be treated as connty revenue, the Minister for Mines wrote that mining under a'road could only be carried on und?r authority of a mining privilege. Ail rente and royalties would, however, revert to the Connty Council. It was resolved to ask the Minister whether the application ehould be made through thn Minister or direct.
