WESTS AND THE BRESCIANS. -
Old patrons of _ Wests and the Brescians must have visited and revisited His -Majesty's Theatre to provide .such excellent houses as are nightly Been, during the last week of the-long season. The: pictures, a.wonderfully varied, collection, gave the audience an insight into scenes all over" tEe woria. Films of a tour through Ceylon showed pretty tropical scenery 'and strange Oriental eights, while coming nearer home, street and harbour scenes in Sydney were projected. , A. series of. naval- studies met with hearty applause, for the pictures were well selected and were photographically excellent. • Goniic and' spectacular .films provided variety, and the Brescians in their musical programme met with deserved 'approbation. Specially welcome features to the audience were Mr. Fred Mills' vocal drollities, and Miss A. Martinengo's capable execution as a violinist. A niatinee in aid of the Door of Hope home will take place on Wednesday afternoon. THE MAN FROM MEXICO. At Wildman's on Thursday morning next, the plans for the first week of the Willoughby and Ward London Company will ba opened, when, in view of the very great popularity of the play and playere, the management may anticipate a big demand\for seats. The opening attraction will be the very latest farcical success in "The Man Froni Mexico," which has been entertaining . crowded audiences for many months past in all parts of Australasia, and in referring to the excellence of same an exchange states:—The diverting story of the roan who was sentenced to and served thirty days' imprisonment, as the result of an escapade, and who explained his absence to his wife by affirming that he had been on a visit/to Mexico, was related to a large audience by the members of the Willoughby and Ward Comedy Company : at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night. The piece went with a refreshing brightness, the interest being well sustained throughout, and the audience were kept in roars of laughter. Mr. Ward, as the Man from Mexico, Mr. Willoughby, as hia friend whose endeavours to "fix things up" resulted in more complication and confusion, and Miss Grace Palotta, as the wife of the Man from Mexico, sustained the burden of the piece in a way that earned the heartiest applause of the audience. The plans for the first six performances.will be on view on Thursday. BRITT-NELSON BIOGRAPH. To-night and to-morrow night, at the Royal Albert Hall, Mr. Will Herbert will produce a biographic reproduction of the great fight for the light-weight championship of the world, between Jimmy Britt, the holder, and Kelson, the durable Dane, which was determined after eighteen terrific rounds at. Cohna, near San Francisco, on 9th September last. It is stated that so vivid and realistic are the moving pictures, over 83,000 in all,, composing- a film of over a mile in length, that every incident is portrayed so realistically that the spectator sees the fight as if he actually witnessed it from a privileged position with the commendable exception that 'the gory element is absent. These pictures are described as the best ever shown here of a fight, and the management has been favoured with crowded houses in Australia. In conjametion with the, Britt-Nelson pictures, the race for the Melbourne Cup, which was won by Poseidon, will be produced, showing the inspection of the New; Zealand horse Solution, the parade of starters, and the exciting finish. The performance will conclude with a series of humorous pictures.
