A.B.C. SPRING MEETING. SECOND DAY. The second day's racing of the Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting is proceeding at Ellerslie this afternoon. The weather is .old and showery, but the attendance is fair. _..-.... —The following are the results:— SPRING HANDICAP of HOsovs. Distance, seven furlongs. Mr W. I_r Thomson's b m Delania, aged, 7.10 (Buhcanan) 1 Mr C. Dawson's br g Ben Jonson, aged, 7.8 (Sparks) 2 Mr P. Woods' br g Claremont, syrs, 7.0 (Porter) 3 Scratched: Duresome. MetalHst cansed a lot of trouble at the post, repeatedly refusing to face the barrier, and on one occasion rearing and knocking Porter, the rider of Claremont, off his horse, at the same time throwing his own rider, Kemp. Fortunately neither of the boys -were hurt. When the tape flew up MetalHst switched round and was left. Hantapu was quickest on bis feet, ana ne set out to make the running, followed by Ben Jonson, Carl Rosa, and Delania, in that order, with Claremont and Lucrece close up. Hantapu showed the way through the cutting, and across the top stretch, where Carl Rosa lost his position, Delania running into third place. Hautapu was first to turn for home. At the distance Delania put in her claim, and quickly settling t.e leaders, she came on and won comfortably by one and a-half lengths from Ben Jonson, which was half a length in front of Claremont. Lucrece was fourth, Carl Rosa fifth, and Fashionable last- Time, 1.30. Dividends, £2 10/ and £1 12/. PENROSE HURDLE HANDICAP of 150 soys. Two miles. j Messrs Harris and Thorpe's bg Defender, ;-. 10.10 (Speakman) _ Mr D. Moraghan's eh g Silicia, 9.10.... 2 Mr C. Weal's br g Swagsman, 10.13 3 All started, Swagsman and Geologist raced in company to the first fence, with Silicia next and Defender last. The leading pair made the running through the cutting and across the top, but as they passed the stand Geologist had drp-pped back, and Silicia and Swagsman were in the lead four lengths in front of Geologist, with Defender last. There was no alteration iv the positions as they went along the hack and through the cutting the second time, but when the mile aud a-half post was reached Defender was on terms with Silicia, Swagsman" "falling away beaten. Silicia and Defender rose at the last fence together, and a desperate 'face home resulted, Defender .taying the longest and winning by half a length. Swagsman was 20 lengths away, third, just in front of Geologist Time, 3m 54 4__. Dividend, £3 15/. NORMANBT HANDICAP of lOOsovs. Six furlongs. Mr P. James' b g Aristocrat, 8.4 (Buchanan) . 1 Mr W. Buckland _eh m Intombi- 7.S .... 2 Mr D: MCLeod's b m La Cigale, 8.7.... 3 Scratched: The Scotchman. Intombi was first to show out, followed by Aristocrat and Norana, and the former set out to make the running, with Lady Cressy, Aristocrat, and Norana following iv that order. Intombi was still in the lead when the straight was reached, and she was in front at the distance, where Aristocrat challenged, and quickly settling the leader went on and won comfortably by alength from Intombi. which was two lengths in front of La Cigale. Uranium was fourth, Norana fifth. Time, 1.18. Dividends, £4 8/ and £11 1/. BIRTHDAY HANDICAP of 400sovs. Distance 1J mile. Mr R. .island's Apologue 1 Master Delaval _» Geordie _. 3 All started. Landlock and Baltimore made the rnn- ! ning to the entrance of the straight, where Master -Delaval toot cha.ge, and he and I Geordie were fighting out the issue at the j distance, where Apologue put in his claim, j and quickly settling the leaders he went on and won by two lengths.
