FIRES IN DUNEDIN.
BIBEE SOCIETY'S DEPOT
DESTROYED.
DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £5000.

DUNEDIN, this day.
The Bible, Tract and Book Society's depot, in Princess-street, was completely destroyed by fire last night. The building, which was of wood, and somewhat old, was owned by Mr. S. Solomon. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The manager was in the building about eight o'clock, and one of the employees at ten o'clock, when everything appeared safeThere was no fireplace in the shop or upstairs.
The value of the stock destroyed is estimated at £..000, the loss being partially covered by insurance. Mr. Wallace (hatter), who ocupies the adjoining premises, had his stock heavily damaged by water. The property damaged was insured in the New Zealand, Alliance, Standard, Sun, Northern, and Phoenix offices. The stock of Mr. Romison, confectioner, was sbghtly damaged by water.
