HIS MAJESTY'S SCHOOL OF MUSIC.
Last evening Mdlle. Dolores, the famous singer, opened the new concert hall at His Majesty's School of Music, Parnell, of which Mr J. F. Bennett is the principal, and presented the 39 certificates won by the pupils at last year's examination of the Associated Board of the R.A.M. and R.C.M., London, for piano and theory, also the silver medal given by the Board to the candidate securing second highest marks in the local centre, intermediate grade, to Miss M. Saunders, and the school gold medal to Miss Dorothy Cardno, given by Mr Bennett to the pupil gaining the highest marks for the school year. Mr J. McKail Geddes received Mdlle. Dolores, Mr H. Lloyd Brett her friends, Mdlle Vandour and Mr Wells, Mrs Brett. There was a large and fashionable gathering, and an excellent programme of music was provided, the following pupils taking part:—The Misses Crowe, Mary Geddes, Mary Saunders, F. Mecleod, Gladys Nathan, Linda Burfoot, Beatrice Tucker, D. Cardno, Cassie M'aeky, Enid Dean, Kathleen Curtis, Masters Sandy Geddes, Trevor Johnson, and Clarence Curtis, and Mrs Forsyth gave in artistic style "Maud Mueller." The concert hall, which is of brick, is a spacious one, and is well appointed, four Bechstein pianos being provided for the pupils. A very handsome steel ceiling of unique design, decorated in cream, blue and gold, is an attractive feature, while the coloured lead lights, folding theatre seats, upholstered in crimson velvet, all add to the beauty of the room. The walls are white, and the arches and entrances are picked in gold, while mirrors with handsome gilt frames lend additional charm to the surroundings.
