Clifford; ewe John Little. SEVENTH DAY ADVENTTSTS. MASTERTON, Wednesday. The annual conference and camp meeting of the Seventh Day Adventists is 1 being hold hero. The oonfoifnce commences on Friday. Several hundred Ad- ' ventists are campjd here. Mr. S. M. Cobb, president of the New Zealand Con- : ference, will preside. It is intended to ' build an industrial school in Masterton i if a suitable property is obtainable. The ! building will cost several thousand pounds. Children of all denominations will be admitted to the school. This will be the first school of its kind established by the Adventists in New Zealand. It ' is also intended to erect one in the South Island shortly. POSTMASTER'S SUICTDE. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. At the inquest on B. C. Dean, Post- i master at Palmerston South, Dr. Henry | stated that he had been attending deceased since the 30th ult. His nervous condition was unstable, and witness advised that he should be watched. He saw deceased at about midday the pre- j vious day, and advised Tria removal to a private hospital, bis general demeanour J then being quite rational. Deceased had I not exhibited any suicidal tendency. Witness had informed the nurses that he did not think deceased would give any trouble. He did not consider the case one for removal to an asylum. The jury returned a verdict that deceased committed suicide during a fit of temporary insanity. ILLEGAL SALE O!F LIQUOR DUNEDIN, Wednesday. At Balelutha to-day William Marshall was fined, £50 by Mr. Cruickshanks, S.M., for keeping liquor for sale in a no-license district. When the case was heard Marshall was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, but on appeal Mr. Justice Chapman held that the case was one for a fine, the previous conviction put in being more than live years old. Two other charges against Marshall and two against Michael Liston, livery stable keeper, were then heard. The accused gave evidence that the liquor had been purchased for their own consumption. Mr. Cruickshanks, S.M., said he did not propose to impose further fines. Liston was convicted on the first charge and discharged on payment of the costs. The informations against Marshall were dismissed.
A narrow escape from a serious accident happened at Onehunga this morning. A man had been aboard the, s.s. OMnemuri to see the engirfeer, and while stepping from the boat to the wharf he missed his footing and fell between the boat and the wharf. Fortunately he escaped striking the pile, and he was rescued from his involuntary bath very little the worse for his immersion.
