In the House of Lords yesterday Lord Jersey moved an amendm nt as a substitute for clause 4 of the Education Bill, requiring the local authorities to grant extended facilities for religious instruction whenever demanded by fourfifths of the parent?. The amendment was carried by 133 votes to 83. J.he Marquis of Ripon (Lord Privy Seal) said the amendment rendered the intentions of the House of Commons in the clause nugatory.
