ISLAND VOLCANO.
' ! r Captain W. Ross, of the schooner Ysa- I bel, which arrived at Nukualofa, on October 22. reported that the volcano j j on the Island of Tofoa in the northern | t part of the Friendly Group, was again !1 in active eruption. The Ysa bel passed s within '!') miles of the volcano. The sky ; j was red with lucent glare from the ' J crater, and the rumblings were quite j J plainly heard. Mr. Boult. engineer of the Ferro-Con- j crete Company, who is an experienced | geologist, visited the vicinity of the vol- t y cano subsequently, ami found that three ; p new cones had been formed on the top ' c of the crater.
