DEVONPOET COUNCIL. The Devonport Borough Council met last night. Preseut: Messrs. E. W. Alison, M.H.R. (in the chair), Wm. Haodley, C. P. Murdoch, C. C. Dacre, R. Logan, jun., E. G. B'nrd, J. B. Graham, W. U. Timewell, W. D. McLean, and B. G. Qsborne. Bond-street.—Mr. G. Sinton wrote complaining of the inadequate water presstue in Bond-etreet, and the Council decided to inform the writer that it was intended to apply to the ratepayers for a loan for the purpose of improving the supply in. -question. Sunday Music—The Rev. T. Evershed, vicar oiT Holy Trinity Church, forwarded a letter in which .he protested against "the practice of the band playing in the Domain on Sunday mornings and afternoons during church irad Sunday-school hours, as the music interfered -with the church services, The letter was referred to the Streets-and Works Committee. Accounts.—The sum of £40S 13/10 was passed for the payment of accounts. " ' t REMTJEHA LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION.' The monthly meeting of the Remuera branch, was held in the Federation rooms, the president (Mr. TV. Johns) being in the chair. The report of the delegate to the conference at Wellington was considered, and was received with strong remarks of disapproval by all present. North Island members, representing 35 branches, were bar-bound at New Plymouth, and were unable to take part in the conference. The following motions were proposed by Mr. Snodgrass, seconded by Mr. F. Steel, and carried; "That on account of the unavoidable absence of about half the delegates sent to represent their respective branches at the recent conference in Wellington, the decision of that conference be for the present postponed, and the branches continue as usual, steadfastly adhering 'to the platform' and principle adopted by the late president, and approved by our present one, the Hon. Sir J. G. Ward." (2) "That a conference be held during the Parliamentary session of 1007. :it which every branch and cub-branch of the Federation shall as far as possible be represented, either personally or by deputy, to revise the rules of the Federation, and otherwise deal with all matters relating to its interest and welfare." The secretary was instructed to forward a copy of the two resolutions to Sir J. G. Ward, president of the Federation. EPSOM BAPTIST SUNDAY SCHOOL. In connection with the Epsom Baptist Sunday-school, the first anniversary "tea and public meeting was held yesterday. Both functions proved successful, and were well attended. The Rev. Williams presided at the public meeting, and the Revs. Clark and North and Mr Townsend were also present. The Rev. Mr Clark congratulated the teachers and superintendent (Mr Dearsly) on the excellent progress the school was making. The attendance had risen from 18 to 90 in one year.' Several other short and congratulatory addresses were g\ven, and a small musical programme contributed waa much enjoyed. SOIREE AT NORTHCOTE. The anniversary services in connection with the Northcote Methodist Sundayschool, -were concluded last evening, when a large number of friends and scholars sat down to an excellent tea, presided over ty Mesdames Cook, Abbott, Misses Bruce, Trcmain. Champtaloup, and Mr Ball. 4t the after meeting the chair was takeu by the Rev. Samuel Griffith, and Mr A. L. White, respectively. The report ac submitted by the secretary, stated that there were 4-1 scholars on the roll, with five' teachers in attendance. The Chairman addressed a few remarks to the children, and the following programme was then gone through: Recitation, "It It Caused.' by Beer?" Miss Nora Abbott; solo, "Low at Thy Feet," Miss Violet Stewart; recitation, "When the Lamps Are Lighted," Miss W. Slattpry;. solo, Miss Evans; song, "Calvary," Mr A. W. Mincher; recitation, "Tired Mothers," Mrs G. S. Cook; song, , "River of Tears," Mrs F. Spraggon; recitation, "The Way to Heaven" (encored), Miss Over. ARCH HILL ROAD BOARD. The ordinary meeting oif the Arch Hill Road Board was held on Monday evening. There were present: Messrs. Jenkin (In the chair), Yfatts, Rowe, Waddingham, and Geutles. Building By-laws.—Considerable discussion took place in regard to the building bylaws, copies of which were before the Board. It was resolved to further consider them nt the next meeting. Areli Hill Gully.— A resolution was passed instructing the clerk to write to the City Council in regard to cleaning out the Arch Hill gully, and requesting that the work be proceeded with. SOCIAL AT TAMAKL A very successful social evening was given last Monday 'by the Tamaki' West Musical and ; Social Club, it being the winding up of the winter session. An Informal programme of glees", songs, readings, and recitations' was 1 ' rendereff by the following members:—Mrs Turribull, ■ Misses t Atklu, Pilkington, Massey, Cooper, Messrs PilWngtoa,' Maseey, and' Wyllie; after which refreshments'- were provided" by ' the' ladies.
