CROQUET TOUIIXAMEXT.
T]ie St. Mark's Guild croquet tournament was begun yesterday, when the first round was played. Glorious sunshine prevailed, and the matches were played under Ideal circumstances, the rain of the previous night having tended to Improve the lawns. Great interest was manifested in the games, aiid the delightful climatic conditions attracted a large number of ladies to t.tio various greens, which presented decidedly l>retty'ami animated pictures. The second round will probably be played on Tuesday next, and the draw for this round will duly appear in our columns. Tickets may he obtained from Messrs Hesketh and Aitken, seedsmen, and from members of tun committee. The following are the results of yesterdays round:— Mrs. G. Nu-hol's Lawn.—Mrs. G. Elliott and Misri Vera Duthle beat Mrs Tonks and Mrs. Tlarty, Miss Torrance and Mr. Colin Clark beat Mrs. CaldweU -and Mrs. llawMrs. Archie Clark's Lawn.—Mrs. Fratorand' Mlss A. Hudson claim a bye owing to the absence of one of their opponents. For the saxne. reason Mrs. Edmistoh and Miss Hesketh claim a bye. ■■ '■■ Mrs. Harry Horton'e Lawn—Mrs. Seagap and Miss D. Stevenson beat Mrs. Sidney. Nathan and Miss Molly Buckworth, Mrs. Ollphant and Miss Alison beat Mrs. Duder *nd Miss M. Peacock.
Mrs. Hanna's Lawn.—Mrs. Oolegrovc and Mrs. Earstow beat Mrs. Jloginic nnd Miss O. Nathan, Mrs. W. R. Walker and Miss Hudson beat Mrs. Longnet and Miss Thorn;! 3.
Mrs. Rose's Lawn.—Miss Steele and Mrs. Contts beat Mrs. G. Hill and Mrs. Southey Baker. Mrs. Thornes arid Miss Hudson beat Mrs. li. Bloomfleld (who played in place of Miss Binney) and Mrs. Best.
