' | Lighting.—The Hospital Committee's re- ! port statetl that the engineer, having re- • ; ported that the dynamo at the hospital was ' | still in an unsatisfactory condition, Messrs ' j Crosher aud Sons had been requested to ■at once put It in proper working order, fali- - I iug which the work would be done at Lheir expense. j Some heated discussion took place on the subject of the lighting of the operating j theatre. Mr Bloouilield stated that he had been informed that operations were always postponed if possible till the following day, 'in the event of eases coming in after dark. ! This might entail serious, if not fatal, rcj suits in emergency cases. The Chairman said the operating theatre at the hospital was the best iv the colony, I and he had been assured that it v*as the best in tlie Southern Hemisphere. (Applause.) Even if the electric light did tail there was a nexcellent supply of gas. Not a single case had come under his notice where operations had been postponed owing to the failure of the light. The report was eventually adopted Laundry Plant.—The Costley Home Committee reported that it was inadvisable for many reasons to build an up-to-date aiundr.v at the Costley Home. The Chairman explained that the majority of the laundry work came from the hospital. H was against the interests of public health that such liueu should be carted through the streets, especially that from the infectious diseases wards. Considerable expense woulfl be incurred in carting' the laundry work from the hospital to the home, aud tno same number ol laundresses could do the work at the hospital without the assistance of the old men, and he believed at less expense.
