CONCERT AT AVOXDAUfI. In conjunction with the Avondale Orchestral Society the Avondale Musical Society held their third concert of the season in the Avondale Hall on Thursday. There was a large attendance. An interesting programme opened with the waltz ''Sizihetta' , by the orchestra. Mrs Hunt sang "My Kingdom, - ' which nict with much approval, and Mr. Crocombe sang ••The. Scout. -, The society then sang the part song, "Come Where the Flowers are Flinging." and met with decided approval. Miss Binstead. Miss K. limstead, Mr Hartley, and Mr Morey rendered the instrumental quartette, "(_'avalleria Rusticana," and were encored. Miss Pritehard was good in the song, 'Nobody Klse." and was warmly recalled. The society then gave the part song, '•Elce.lsior. -- Mr. Arthur Dobbs sang "Romanza Margarita." and in response to an encore. '"Do You Remember V The second part was opened with t.bp waltz "Undae Maria -, by the orchestra, followed by tho items: Song, selected, Mr Moylan; part song, "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind," Society; duet. "Oh, That We Two Were Maying. - ' Mesdames Kissel anri Huut; song. "Gallants of England," Mr Pritchard, and. on an encore being demanded, gave, an exceptionally good rendering ot the song, "The Skipper." Mrs Hunt sang
'■Sincerity.' , The last item was a gavotte, ■"Stephanie/ by the orchestra Both societies are under the conductor ship of Mr J. R. Simpson.
THE NATIONAL IiEAGUIi.
The general council of the .National League of New Zealand met on Friday' night in the Lwiguo'a rooms, Swanson - street, to confer with tbe suburban residents who have undertaken organisation of suburban branches of the league. The formation of provisional committees in several suburbs was arranged, and it was arranged to hold branch meetings during November, the time and place io he fixed by suburban committees. Mr YV. B. land, president of the league, and -Mr John I-'awcuS waited on the Auckland branch of the x\ustralian Institute of Marine Engineers yesterday, and lai before them the programme of the league. The whole of the marine engineers present became members of the league, and plfidjjed themselves to work in its interest?, while the oflicials undertook to communicate the spirit of the meeting to absent members, and to circulate among them the league's literature. Arebdeacon Calder and the hon. secretary waited on the Auckland Saddlers' Union last night on behalf of the league, and laid the programme and policy of the league before the members present. They were accorded a hearty reception.
CONCERT AT ELLERSLIE.
A hig-hly successful concert was held in Cairns' Hall, Ellerslie, under the auspices of the Ellerslie Presbyterian Church. The following programme was rendered:—Pianoforte items, Mrs Hardy, Misses Howden, Piamage, Hill, Eaves, Moore, and Master Moore; cello solos, Mr Peek; violin solo, Mr Gordon; vocal items, Misses Howden, Kanaage, Waddell. Elly, Smith, and Messrs Percy Lee, Smith, and PiAmage. A feature of the evening-were the iten>~, 'TBanish O Maiden" and "Lovy-ig*' \t" rendered by the Orpheus Bruce. Richmond,Dijning \ Armstrong), both, of .whic4.rd r > saS>.. encored.
