THE MANUKAU SEAT.

The. death of Mr M. M. Kirkbride, MJELR. for M&nukau, will necessitate a by-election for the seat in the course of two or three weeks. Already a number of probable candidates have been mentioned, and there i≤ a likelihood of the Government vote being split. Mr J. T. Stembridge, of Ararimu South, has announced himself as a candidate, and the names of Mr John Rowe, Mayor of Onehunga, and Mr A. Sutherland have been suggested. All these are prominent members of the Liberal and Labour Federation. On the Opposition side of the House, the name of Mr F. W. Lang, ex-M.H.R- for Waikato, who was defeated at last election, has been mentioned, but it is not yet known who will be the official candidate of the Political Reform Party, the organisation of the Opposition.
