SOUTHERN NEWS.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.> POST OFFICE BURGLARISED. CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. On Thursday night the Sydenham Post Office was broken into by burglars, entrance being effected through the ba-ck door, which was prised open. Everything had bepn securely locked up when the office was closed, and the nocturnal visitors were forced to go away empty handed.
MISHAP TO A COACH.
NELSON, this day. The chief postmaster has received the following telegram:—The coach which left Nelson for Blenheim this morning met with an accident at Collins' River at 11.15 a.m. The passengers and driver aro sa'o and the luggage all saved except ono hamper, which was lost. Two horses were drowned. The passengers aud the driver are at the Wangamoa accommodation house.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.
.NELSON, this day. The body of a lad named Moynihan, who was drowned in a boating fatality at Boulder Bank yesterday week, was found floating out of the harbour. At the mqμest a verdict of "accidental death" was returned, with a rider warning parents of the danger of letting young hide go in canvas dinghies and canoes on what is practically tha sea-shore unattended by their elders, A long dry spell of weather, which was causing fears of shortage of water in the city and anxiety among farmers, was broken up to-day by heavy rain, whieli is general in the district, Rain will save the situation here, as in Canterbury, oomiog in the nick, of time.
