AUCKLAND ROWING CLUE. The Auckland Rowing Club opened their season on Saturday last, when trial fours, for trophies presented by Messrs Skeates Bros., were rowed. There was a large attendance of members and friends. The executive of the Auckland Rowing Association wore represented by Messrs Moran, Wade, and P.enjamin; the latter gentleman also acted ns judge, und his decisions gave complete satisfaction. The weather was line, but a fairly stiff breeze was blowIng, aud consequently the water was rather heavy. beven crews competed, and the race was rowed in three heats. Iv the Erst heat, W. J. Lovett's crow won by a length from W. Fleming. lv the second heat, Murray and Ueilaby fouled each other, and Foreshaw was judged the victor. The third heat provided an exciting race Cetween liogans and Strickett's crews, the latter winning by a canvas. In the linal, ail got away from a splendid start, and kept together for about threequarters of the distil nee. when Etrickett's crew got a strong wind aud tide against them, and fell back. Foreshatr and Lovett then raced n.eck-andi-n'eek, Lovetft's crew winning by hall a length. The winning crew consisted of: W. J. Lovett (stroke). J. Cleal, H. 0. Wiles, and H. Desborough. A noticeable feature of the racing was the marked improvement In the rowing of the crews, inasmuch as they made greater use of their reach, and full use of the slide, so that each, stroke was a full one,, and spasmodic sports, -so commoa .on a ghort trial comse* seie avoided*
