CYCLING.
THE OPENING RUN. The Auckland Cycling Club opened Ui ■ season on Saturday afternoon last with a run to Cornwall Park. A large number of cyclists assembled at the Three Lamps. Ponsonby, and shortly before three o'clock they started for the Park •in processional order. There was a larger number of gentlemen riders thau last year, but the ladies wore not so well represented. A number of the machines were, nicely decorated, and several riders carried flags hearing the word, "Our roads are bad," and ''We. pay taxes," as a protest against the rough roads about the city. In Khyber Pass a dozen or more members of the One.hunga Cycle Touring Club joined in the procession, which now comprised about 70 or SO machines. At Cornwall Park a hill climbing contest was held, after which the cyclists were entertained by the club at afternoon tea in the caretaker's grounds. A short address was given by the president. Mr T. Harle-Giles, in the course of which he referred to the increased enthusiasm which was being displayed in cycling matters this year, and also ccomplained of the bad state of the roads. The various competitions resulted as follows: —Best Decorated Bicycle: Gentlemen's —Bridgcns, 1. Ladies'—Miss Maberley 1. Best Floral Decorated Bicycle: Bennett, 1. G. Mills (dressed as a girl) was also awarded a pri/.e. Best Comical Costume: Rowcastle. \. Most Appropriate. Cycling Costume: Gentlemen — Howick, 1. Ladies —Misses Banbury and Slator, 1. Hill-climbing Content: Piper and D. Ireland, rlead-heat, -. Seven started. Slow Race (about .10yds! : D. Ireland. 1; AY. Ireland. 2; Twenty-five started.
ONEIIUNGA CYCLE CLUB,
The Onchunga Cycle. Touring Club held their annual meeting in Holme's Hall, Onehunga, on Friday last. 'mere was a, good attendance, and It. Sutherland presided. The annual report stated that tlio past season had boon :i very successful one, and the balancesheet showed that the receipts were, £43 17/. and tho expenditure £31 10/2, leaving a credit balance of £12 (i/ 10. Them are no liabilities. Officers were elected as follows:—Fatron, Mr .T. Rowc (Mayor of Onehuupa ) ; president, Mr R. T. Michaels; vice-presidents, ' ihe Revs J. Mills, Stoops, and D. D. Scott. Colonel Noakes. and Messrs Warren Blyth, J. \V. Whyto. Angus Gordon. -T. J. Russell. W. J. Savers. A. W. Ihimer, and T. MoEwan; captain, Mr T. H. Pardinnrfon (re-elected): vice-captain, Mr J. Richardson; ■ secretary and treasurer, Mr S. H. Brooking (re-elected) : committee. Messrs R. Sutherland, Cyril Etishbrook (re-elected), F. Cavanagh, and Albert Sayers. One of the most interesting races will br. that for the ten puinea tup promised by the captain. Mr T. H. Partington, for annual competition.
