WORKMEN'S DWELLINGS.
OBJECTIONS TO THE PLANS. CBy Telegraph-—Press. Association.) ; . CHEISTCHUIICrI 3 . this day. A depntatioa from the General La: btmrers' Union of "Workers was to lave .-waited- upon th-e Jfinister for Labour this morning,, but Mr MiHai -was confined to Ms room - by "an attack of and could not meet it. The deputation proposed to lay before the Minister several objections to the class of workmen's homes now being erected. The four sets of plans and plan A it. condemns as a whole as too elaborate. Too much money had been spent on roofing/ and outside ornamentation, and too little 03 practical arrangeßaent -Against plan B there were only two ofethat one of the bedrooms could be- reached only through the sittingwom, while there was a useless verandah. They suggested that the verandah at the side of the house should? be done away ivith, and a passage run, through the middle of the house from the front instead of from the side. Plans C and.D. were objected on the ground that there was too much elaboration outside, the size of the room suffering in "consequence. The deputation proposes that in future no contract should be let for the erection of workers* dwellings," but that they should be erected by the .'Government by day labour, and that when the worker desires to occupy a worker's dwelling he should be allowed to select a locality and the plan of the .cottage. /
