AMAZING BIGAMY STORY.
ARREST OF A GERMAN "BARON." The New York police recently arrested •Baron" August Frank Voss,, who, they sa,v, has fonr wives, and of whom the "Daily Telegraph" correspondent tells a picturesque story. His fourth wile, it appears, is a Massachusetts society woman named Blanche J.pwett. whom he married last June under the impressive name of Baron August Eugeu You Waldeck-Schofleld. The lady was the divorced wife of Dr. Mallaber, of San Francisco. She and the doctor separated at the time of the earthquake, and she resumed her maiden name, and went on the stage. 'Then she met the dashing "baron." who said that his father was the Governor of Sumatra, and the honeymoon followed. Mrs Voss, deserted wife No. 3, noticed the wedding announcement, aud promptly informed the police of the bigamist's picturesque career. Voss is a handsome man, and hails from Beriiu, with limited means but unlimited nerve. Four years ago he married Mrs Voss, an innocent, brown-eyed girl of nineteen, who incurred the envy of her Brooklyn neighbours by her alluring title of baroness. The police have now made inquiries, and .have discovered that half a dozen jewellers are anxious to meet him. In the autumn following came tile third marriage, and hs ■was sent to prison at Washington for stealing gems from a local jeweller on the same day as his wife became a mother. On his release Mrs Voss rejoined him at s New York flat, where he brought home young "counts" and fleeced them by means of cards. His wife did not object until he substituted brunettes ana blondes for the counts. At them she drew the line, and went home to her mother. The "baron" came after her a month later in a motor car, and asked for forgiveness on his knees. Sh,e declined, and a week after stie saw in the newspapers the announcement of Ms wedding to Miss Jewett. The latter visited Voss iv prison on Saturday, and sent him the following note: "Please tell mc if the charges about "you in the papers arc true. If not, I will help you." -The "baron" replied: "Dear Blanche,—Never believe tiie American newspapers. God bless you." Miss Jewett declared that the answer was unsatisfactory, and that she -wcTtld abandon him to his fate.
