WELLINGTON FIRE VERDICT.

XO EVIDENCE AS TO ORIGIN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association. ) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The inquiry into the recent fire on Lambton-quay concluded this evening. The jury, after deliberating for hali-an-kour. brought in the following verdict: (1) That in the opinion of the jury the tire commenced in the premises of the Wellington Auctioneering Company, but that there is no evidence to show how it originated. (2) The evidence submitted to the jury by the owners and employees of the company is generally of an unsatisfactory character. (3) That the spread of the fire was due firstly, to the failure of the Wainui water supply; second, to the length of time that elapsed in turning on the Karori service; and. thirdly, to the fact that the staff the superintendent had at his disposal was insufficient to promptly man the appliances with which he is provided. ffl
