OYSTERS.

A TAINTED SUPPLY. Four men, named James Stevenson, Herbert Rands, Alfred Ohorley, and Thos. Snowdon, pleaded guilty to Mr. Dyer, SJM., in the Police Court. this morning, to charges of having taken oysters within a prohibited area, namely at Point Chevalier, contrary to the provisions of the " Sea Fisheries Act." They explained that they were all new arrivals in Auckland, and they were not aware that there was any law against their talcing oysters at that spot. Mr. Maya did not doubt the truth of this explanation. The men were seen coming from Point Chevalier carrying a bottle of oysters each. Perhaps the beet punishment would have been for them to eat the oysters, coming from such a source. A lenient fine of £1, with costs £1 11/6 each, was imposed.
