T. lhompson arrived in Auckland last night by the Wellington from Whangarei. Mr P. H. Basley was this mornIng admitted to the Supreme Court as % solicitor by Mr Justice Edwards on the motion of Mr Geo. Basley. Mrs Digby Smith, who is the daughter of Colonel Gudgeon, and has been visiting relatives in this colony, went to Barotonga yesterday in the Taviuni. To-day was the anniversary of George Washington's birthday, and the Stars and Stripes were exhibited in celebration thereof at the American Consulate-G«ne-xal. Mr F. S. Townley Little, of the Otago University, who has been visiting his people at* Devonport during the recess, ■went back to Dunedin to-day in the Takapuna. Mr John Griggs, who was second steward of the steamer Navua, was presented by the cabin staff yesterday with, a smoker's companion set, as a testimony of their esteem. The Minister for Public Works, who is due in Wellington again from the South on Saturday, will, according to present arrangements, leave next we.ek on an extensive tour of the North Isiand. A Press Association telegram states ihat Mi Parker, was chosen as one of the Australasian tennis team to visit England for the championship meeting, Jeft Wellington en route for England io-day.
