(Before Mr. S. E. McCarthy, S.M.) Alleged Drapery Thefts. —Upon the application of Chief Detective Marsack, Nelly Howard, who had been arrested at Coromandel, was remanded on bail until Friday upon a charge of stealing some dress material, aprons, and an under-gannent, of the total value of 225., the property of Lily Bernard. Drunkenness. — William Stewart, Henry Naylor, Claud Biley, and Christina Stewart, who had been previously convicted, were fined £1 each for drunkenness. Two first offenders were fined 10/ each, and costs- A trimmer on the steamer Somerset named David Dyer. who had gone aboard drunk and used oasceae. language to the officers, was remo-ved io the Queen-street Whirf; where he repeated the bad language. For this he was sentenced to three months' hard labour, being convicted and discharged upon the charge of drunkenness.

Chinese and Sunday Labour.—The police prosecuted ten Chinese market gardeners named Ah. Lee, George Duck, Ah Sun, Hing Yong, Kam Wah, Ali Ping, Ling, George T,it!»t. Willimi J. Xanton, and Alfred W. Linton, for following their occupation in view of the public at Avondale on Sunday, February 12th. The defendants were represented by Mr W. J. Napier, who secured an adournment of the cases until Wednesday, as he -wished to have time to look into the legal aspect of the affair and summon some witnesses for the defence.

City Council By-laws. —William Stephens, a Khyber Pass tradesman, was fined 5/ and costs for obstructing the footpath by displaying goods upon it, and George Milne, an ice-cream vendor, -who admitted having broken the City Council by-laws by keeping a stall in the Domain without first obtaining a permit, was fined 15/ and 7/ costs-
