BOWLING.

Ealfe and Harrison, the skippers of the two Devotiport teams which won the Auckland pennant this season, are opposed in the club championship. Each skipper has a vein to his credit, and the deciding one should be a very close and interesting event. Harrison put his fellow skip out of the handicaps, but is not likely to repeat his success without a |rame effort on the part of Ralfe. Ano-' ther interesting Devonport championship match which has to be played is between the president of the club (Mr Mitchell) and Broughton. When thes# matches are over, the Ivinners, with Gardener, will be left in the competition. A scratch team consisting of Eagleton. Crane, Johnson, and a fourth player tyill represent Devonport at the Rotorua tournament. A very good combination will appear on behalf of the Auckland Club, Dingle, Thornes, Ledinghain, and Lyons having decided to compete. Three teams from the Auckland Club visit the Oriehunga green next Saturday, and the visit will be exchanged on tlie same date by three Onehunga rinks. The teams left in the Auckland Club fours competition are James', Easton's, Mennie's, and Carlaw's. In the championship the players who have to battle for the premier place are James, and Perrett. An interesting little function will take place on Saturday next at the Auckland green, when the president of the Auckland Bowling Association (Mr Murdoch McLean) will present the various nrizes. won at the recent tournament. Bowlers who have to be handed over are requested to leave them with Mr Bartlctt, jewellerClub matches for trophies have been initiated at the new green of the Grey Lynn Bowling Club. The competitions consist of pairs, first year players, and the club championship. In order -to make the green more perfect next season the members will stop playing at the end of March. The benefit of the autumn growth will then be secured, and with the exercise of this foresight the club should possess a greatly improved green next season. Several of the other Auckland club's have shown the usual good fellowship among bowlers by inviting the Grey Lynn members to complete the season on their greens. I learn from a letter which Mr J. N. McLean, secretary of the R.otorua Bowling Club, has written to Mr G. F. BrimWecombe. of the Mounf Eden Club, that thp. matches in the Roiorua tournament will have to be fmis'hed at Rotorua, and medals, which will be on View during the competitions, will be presented on the spot. The Victorian championship has been won by L. Waxman, of the Annadale Club, who beat A. pastier, of West Melbourne, by 21 to 20. Ponsonby Club still holds the Edwin stars. A team from Mount Albert tried to carry off the trophies last Saturday, but failed by five points to reach the Ponsonby score. Rocky Nook are next on the list, and thpir game against the holders will come oft' a week to-day on .the I'oiisonby green. The Devonport Club has got through its club matches so well that the members are beginning to turn their attention to the inter-dub visits, which form such a pleasant feature of the sport. Grey Lynn and Mount Albert Clubs have been invited to the Devonporfc green next Saturday, and a number of exchanges Avith othefc Auckland clubs will follow. The single-handed championship of Australasia, is to be played on the Waverley Club's jn-eens, New South Waleon April 21st. 22nd and 24th. The entrance % money is 10s a member. Trophies: First, £30: second, £12-third. £5; fourth, £3. Entries close on April 10. I notice a rule on this inatcii that is worthy of consideration by some of ouv bowlers—viz., "A player when not delivering his bowls must stand behind the mat line until the last bowl has been played." This will not prevent n player from inspecting tlie position of tho bowls previous to his delivering his bowl, no time being wasted, it is to be hoped that some of our single-handed players will take the trip, and endeavour to secure the gold riband of Australasia.
