BUILDERS' WORK CRITICISED.
Mr McCarthy, S.M.. in the Auckland Magistrates' Court yesterday evening, continued: to. heat evidence in the building- dispute between Snelling Bros. Cbuilders) and John Bell, for whom* they built a house by contract in Inker-. man street. His Worship and the parties had inspected the property during an adjournment. _ ... John Bell continued to give, a list of. the carpentry defects which he allegedexisted in the building, and complained also that the plumbing - was of an amateur description. _, To Mr Cotter: .Witness considered himself quite competent to act as arehi-" tect over the building of the house; there was "nothing in it." It was not' true that he had said to Slator that lie. expected to get tht house put lip for £50^ The clause providing that the work was to be done "to tho satisfaction of the architect" was not in his original specifications. Mr Cotter carried on a lengthy crossexamination, in the course of which the, magistrate warned the witness that if he did not answer the questions properly it might be necessary for him to commit him to gaol for contempt of court. The cross-examination lasted for two hours, and the case was finally adjourned • till Monday,, when cross-examination will be resumed.
