WARSHIPS AT LYTTELTON.
(Bj Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHEISTCHURCH. this day. The Admiral, in ILM.s. Euryalus. with H.M.s. Challenger and H.M.s. Psyche, arrived from Port Chalmers via Akaroa this morning, and "was formally welcomed by the Mayors of Christehurch. and Lyttelton, and the chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, the representatives of public bodies and the president of the Navy League. The presentation of the challenge shield by the local branch of the Navy League to tbe Admiral, which takes place to-morrow afternoon at Lancaster Park, promises to be one of the most interesting and popular functions of the year- The League has received information that SOO men from the warships in port will take part in the parade, and these will be entertained by the League at afternoon tea. An effort is also being made to induce the business places of the town to close on Thursday instead of on Saturday. The commandants of tbe district lias issued an order for the volunteers to turn out in force.
