ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council ■was iield m the Council Chamber night. There were present: His Worsbiis the Mayor (Mr D. A. Sutherland, in the chair), nnd Crs. Tole. Utanlield. lUsn worth. Bowe. MeLeod, Stoupfi. C.olle&ge. ISarr, and UiJl. A Complaint.—At Last meeting a complaint was laid against the ranger, and was referred to the Council in committee, who reported "that they were satisfied that the nuiioiiuding was not carried out properly, and that the ranger must keep his horses off the roads, and supply a list of ail impounding*! lo the Council.' Horoutn Lease.—The question of the leasing of a portion of the" borough reserve t'u which to erect a billiard-room was discussed at length. It was resolved that as Liie resolution of January 31, leasing the lvserve. was ultra vires, the same be expunged, the allotment as well as others to ue advertised for lease VoJußteer Encampment.—An application from Lieut. Kichardson. In charge of the Onphußga Rifle Volunteer Corps, to encamp on the recreation ground, was granted on the motion of the Mayor and Councillor Howe. Footpath.—Mr C. G. Davis, manager of the New Zealand Glue Works, wrote requesting that the footpath from the woollen milts to his property be comnleted, as the work had been passed. A discussion ensued, in which it was remarked that the chairman of the Streets Committee did nor employ enough men to do the work. Cr. Tole. in reply, said that some short time ago the Council stopped the Streets Committee from expending any money in the borough, bat as the elections were now approaching the Council appeared to be prepared to grant any work asked for. The Mayor and Cγ. Rishworth strongy objected to Cr. Tote's remarks, aDd on their motion the Streets Committee was empowered to employ labour to complete all works already on th." Council's books. Petition.— A petition from the residents of Mays-road. praying for footpath improvements and removal of rock in that serfet, was taken cha -ye of by the Mavir Noxious W«ds.—Messrs F. W. Brooineid and Jesse King wrote complaining of the overjrrowth of fennel and other noxious weeds at Mount Smart-road.—The letters were referred to the Council in committee Financial Statement.—The Town Clerk made his usual fortnightly financial statement, after which accounts amounting to £145 11.7 were passed for payment. Contractor and Foreman.—The contractor (Mr J. Irvine) for tarring and sanding the borough footpaths wrote complaining that he was delayed in his work owing to insufficient supplies of tar and sand by the Council. Th foreman of works (Mr Hill) ■wrote complaining of the manner in which the tarring and sanding contract was being carried out. Both the contractor and foreman were examined by the Council, and an acrimonious discussion ensued. It was | finally resolved that "Shell, and failing that sand, amounting to 14 toads per day. be enpplied to the contractor, likewise a sufficient ouantity at tar." Footpath.—t was agreed to asphalt Sel-wyn-Ptrevt footpath between Green Hill and Xraialzar streets. i
