HARBOUR BOARD ELECTIONS.

■ 4 CITY COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES.! A special meeting of the City Council was held at noon to-day for the purpose of electing four representatives on the Harbour Board. There were present: The Mayor. Hon. E. Mitehelson, Councillors j. T. Julian. L. J. Bagnall, G. Knight, M. Casey, C. J. Parr, J. McLeod, C. D. Gray. S. C. Brown, John Court, W. H. Hutchison, and Dr. Sharman. The following candidates were nominated: The Mayor, Councillors Grey. Parr. Court, Brown, Hutchison, and Bagnall. As only four were wanted, the selection was made by ballot, and resulted as follows: E. Mitchelson 10. C. J. Parr S. S. C. Brown 7, and W. J. Hutchison 7, who were declared elected. The other votes were: Court G, Bagnall and Urey 5 each. , PTior to taking the vote Mr. Court 1 suggested that candidates should agree to resign their seat on the Harbour Board if not re-elected to. the Council. Mr. Parr considered that if asked to resign the representatives should do so. Dr. Sharman thought as soon as a new Council was elected the representatives should submit themselves for election by the Council. The Mayor said it was purely a matter of honour, a.s the appointment was for t wo years. THE ELECTION. Considerable interest was manifested to-day in the election of members to the Harbour Board. The candidates were: Messrs. John Thomas Julian (retiring chairman), William Johnson Parker, and John Mclntyre Laxon (retiring members). Charles Craven Dacrc (a former member), and James Milne Mennie. The ' election took place in the long room at the Harbour Board offices, where Mr. F. L. Prime officiated returning officer, Mr. William Eady being poll clerk. Mr. A. Andrews was scrutineer for Mr. Dacre, Mr. Bromiield for' Mr. Parker, and Mr. H. T. Johnson for Mr. Laxon. Polliug commenced at nine o'clock, and the votes came in very steadily. The various candidates were in attendance, and some had friends working energetically for them. The poll closes at" six p.m.
