ROBBED IN A HANSOM CAB.

THE ROBBERS SENTENCED. Edward Barrett and Charles Sydney Anderson, convicted by the jury of assaulting and robbing a drunken man in a cab at Newmarket, were brought up for sentence. Their counsel. Mr Lundon. pointed out that so far as the cabman Anderson was concerned, the crime was not a planned affair, but was the accident of a moment. His Honor (Mr Justice Edwards) said thp crime was one for which the accused were liable to imprisonment for life. He would not, however, be co severe as that, ill view of thp fact that very little violence was used. The case against Anderson was aggravated by the fact that he was a licensed cab driver, it was a very serious matter if a man could not ride with safety in a licensed cab. especially as women and children frequently travelled in cabs unprotected. He would sentence each to two years' imprisonment.
