The Rev. Mr Isitt arrived from the | South in the Rotoiti to-day. The Rev. Archdeacon Cole left for New Plymouth in the Rotoiti this afternoonThe Rev. Father McGuinness, who succeeds Father Kehoe at Te Aroha E.C. Church, has taken up his duties. Mr Walter A. Given, If.A., of Dμedin, has been selected out of several candidates for the position of second assistant master at Prince Albert College Mr John A. Woodward, who is well known in connection with insurance business in this city, has been appointed district agent at Auckland for the fire department of the. Yorkshire Insurance Company. The Rev, Fr. Hills, of St. Patrick's College, Wellington, who has been spending his. .-vacation in Auckland, where he was a guest of Dr. Leuihau at Bishop's House, Ponson&y, left by the Rotoiti to-day en route for the capital city. Another very old identity haa passed away in the person of Mrs C. H. J. Howell, relict of the late Dr. Howell, whose decease took place at her stepson's residence, Coroniaudiel. last evening. Deceased was 72 years of age, and was highly respected throughout the district. The year 1859 seems a long way back aow, yet there died at Matakana recently Mr Alexander Campbell, J.P.. ■who arrived in the colony by the ship Tornado, in that year. For some years he had a farm and fruit orchard, and when Matakana started a school he held the position of teacher for five years, after which he was transferred to Warkworth, and filled a similar position for twenty-five years, and on hia retirement in 1892 was given a- testimonial as a mark of the high esteem in which he was held. Mr Campbell was also past master and clerk to the Road Board. He was a director of the Matakana Dairy Company at the time of his death. Deceased wns a native of Saltcoats, Ayrshire, Scotland. He leavee a widow, three sons and live daughters.
