A BRASS BAND FOR AUCKLAND.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —One cannot h-elp admiring the persistency with which your correspondent -Hautbois ,, advocates the formation of a military or brass band for the city; but why send to England I for information which can -be supplied locally* The prices of instruments from Mahilloii and Co., Boosey, Besson, B-awkes. WaJIU, and J. T. Lainy can be obtained any time (during business hours) from Messrs E&dy, Hoffman or West. While agreeing with "Hautbois" on the necessity for a good band, 1 would respectfnlly suggest to him the desirability of encouraging the few we have; a-nd I believe if he took the matter in hand and expended his surplus energy towards seeming support for them that he would soon have his wish gratified. Half a dozan good saxophones added to either the Garrison or Battalion Band would give the desired tone colour, and liberal support from the public would encourage improvement, —I am, etc., EUGEN"E HTJLSE, Late Royal Marine Band.
