RODNEY AGRICULTURAL SHOW
The aoiHial show held under the auspices of the Rodney Agricultural Society took place at Warkworth yesterday, and ■yeas largely patronised. Some 150 excursionists journeyed by the s.s. Kapanui from Auckland, and a goodly number travelled by the s.s. Gael. The -weather was all that could be desired, and it was estimated that there were qiiite WOO people oa the gTound- The showground, situa-ted about a. mile from tie township, is-admirably suited for che purpose. The number of entries, generally, did not appear to be quits so numerous, when compared with last year, bat the general opinion was that the quality was quite equal, if not superior. Draught horses do not call for special coimnent, although there were sonic good individual exhibits. Mr -G. Harvey's Captain Wright repeated his performance the week previous at Waiwera show by winning first prize in the draught caiire class. Hacks, on the whole, were above t&e average of country shovra, and th<? competition in most of thf classes wss been. Oattle, especially in the dairy section, were good; bat the entries in the fat classes were jnot up to the usual standard. One and ail of the entries in the eattie classes were out of condition, and the same remark applies to sheep, "w&iea- -were poorly represented. The home and dairy section was an exhibition in itself, although tv« fruit beare evidence of the severe weather experienced during the spring and early summer months. Messrs. E. Morrison and Sons had a magnificent display of fruit for exhibition only, which was worth going a long way to see. It was most tastefully arranged, and the quality appeared to be par excellence. Another exhibit calling for special mention in the inside exhibition was an entry of maize cobs, by Mr T. H. Seandrett. There were also some good exhibits in the dairy section, the entries being unusually even in the matter of qusuxty. The following were the judges of the different sections:—Horses, Messrs Alex. Muir (Papatoetoc) and X Allen (Cambridge) ; cattle, sheep, and dairy producp. Mr Luke Ballard (Auckland); poultry, Mr Tattersall; fruit and flowers, Messrs. Beecroft and Bennett (Auckland ); field and garden produce, Mr S. O'Leary (Auckland) ; preserves and miscellaneous, Mr S. Darrow and Mr Robt. Brown. The management of the show was good, and any shortcomings in this respect which were noticeable were due largely to inexperience on the part of some of the officials. Mr L._ Hugh Thomson was an energetic secretary, and had his work well in hand. The following were the members of the working committee: Mr C. P. Thomson, president and treasurer; vice-president, Mr W. Hamilton; chairman i.f committee, Mr T. Seandrett; conuiiittee. Messrs. E. Barker. A. Woodcock, jun.. L. B. Wyatt. W. H. Martin, E.
