The stor\ about the bonds -was ridiculed at the lime by officials, and it now appears that two Russian agenLs arri'red in Melbourne, and entered into negotiations with a prominent shipping fii-ru for the purchase of one of the fastest steamers in Australia, and paid a. preliminary deposit of £2000 therefor. The Federal Goverrihient were then made acqu?.int«d with the fact. They in turn informed the (rOvernur-General. who next I'.dvised Sir Harry Rawpon that the men ha«i left Melbourne, and requested him to have them watched. The men have now left Sydney, the purchase never having been completed.
