The Finance Committee of the Education Board to-day recommended the Board to authorise the expenditure of a portion of the grant (£64 9/10) received for the encouragement of swlm ; ming, together with a sum of £25 availablo from the Government grant, to the N.Z. Amateur Swimming Association, i» providing instruction in swimming to boys and girls of the town and suburban [schools; the instruction to be given by Mr Richmond Cavill (champfon swim? mer); the arrangements to be carried out under the direction of a committee consisting of Mr L. J. Bagnall, Mr S. E, Hughes, Mr F. J. Ohlson, Mr R. W- St. Clair, the secretary, and the director of technical education; the classes to be organised under clause 23 of the Regulations under the Manual and Technical Instruction Act. The Board adopted the recommendation. A Press Association telegram states that a 32ft motor launch, built by Mr Rowan, of Wellington, to the order Of Mr W. Nicholson, for the use of ex? cursionists on Lake Rotorua will be shipped North to-day. The total cost of the vessel was £325. The Parnell Croquet Club gave a croquet party at the club greens yflsterday afternoon to the members of the Grafton, Remuera and Mount Eden Clubs. Progressive croquet was played on seven greens—the tennis lawns being used to provide the extra greens. The prizes (pictures) were wop by Mrs Noakes in the A class and Miss Elt liott in the B class, both Mount Eden players.
