During the week the drive* crossed through lo lhe footwall of the lode, -where the country is of a much firmer nature. The lode itself, which is about 2ft in thickness, still consjsts of a conglomerate formation.

The?'drive -east from the main crosscut on the small vein of quartz has reached what is thonght to he the break which displaced the big reef on the level. Gold has been seen right up to this break., and a few handfuls of picked stone were secured from the kernels of quartz, of which the vein is composed. A small portion of ground has been driven through the break, and there is every indication of Ihe leader carrytnir straight through. In the workings on the big reef below No. 3 level a short underhand stope was taken out for about 3ft in depth close to the winze, but, finding that the mineral band of stone was not very strong, tile manager decided to remove the men to the tributers' old winze,, about 20ft up from the bottom, ami start them to cut into the hangingwall to ascertain the throw of th e °lode on the break,. and whether or not the mineral is continuing. Twenty-six loads of quartz have been forwarded to the mill. Old Allmmia.—The main tunnel has been extended 22ft for the week, making a total distance for the present contract of 192 ft. New Eclipse.,—Tire manager reports that, -during the past week operations in the.stopes north of the winze have been in progress, and have given very encouraging upsnrts. Gold has been seen fpeely throjigh the ore at each breaking down, and a further haul of 501b of good picket! stone has been secured. The lode maintains its average size of from 3ft to 4_t. and continues its promising appearance. The battery is still crushing case shift on the ore won from the workings mentioned, and is shaping, satisfaetorilv.

New Una.—A leader about 4in. wide was cut in the crosscut. The quartz contains a fair percentage of mineral, but no gold has been seen in it .yet. The manager intends to carry the stope from the May Queen Extended boundary stope along into his company's ground, when the other works are further advanced.

New Saxon,—Ln the leading stope the leader is small, but the quartz coming to hand is payable. There is net so much mineral as there was iv the drive, but gold is more freely seen, and alb. of picked stone were selected during the week. The manager intends to "start sinking a -raze on the leader.
