Tie second series of the second round Jn connection with the Auckland Cricket Association's championships commenced on Saturday in fine but somewaht dull wea§her, the wickets being good. On the DoSntun. Grafton met City, and scored 157 in their first Innings, City then making 55 (without the loss of a wicket. Ponsonby were disposed of for 154 by Eden, and the hitter made 94 for four wicket-. A record innings was made ;ig;ilust North ■Share by Parnell. the total 412 when only eight of the batsmen had been disposed of. CITY -V. GRAFTON. Grafton made an unfortunate start in their Innings against City, Barr-Brown bowling D. Hay in his first over for a duck. When Kallender and Jones came together there was a short stand, until 48 was put up. Taylor bowled successfully, and when he got rid of Jones when tfio score was 53 for four wickets, his analysis was 4 overs. 2 maidens. 2 wickets, and 2 runs. Matters were Improved by I). L. J. Clayton, who scored 39 F. D. Clayton (28). and A. Laurie (23). the iniiin;rs closing for 157. Hemus and McCormick opened the City innings very successfully for 55 without the loss of a wicket. WELLINGTON, this day. The Phoenix-Midland match in the sen.ior cricket competition was concluded on Saturday, Midland winning by 47 runs. T**v top scorers for Ptoenix in their second innings were Waters 39, and Nash 20, the total being 96. The game between the Gas Company's eleven and Wellington was not finished when stumps were drawn. Gas Company's second innings totalled 291 (Hawthorn 81, Cobcroft 63, Dredge 58 not out, Waugh 22). Wellington in their second inningß scored 103 for tae loss of six wickets (Weybourne 30 not out dbbes 18). CHRISTCHUKCH, this day. Senior cricket was continued under favourable conditions on Saturday when Midland made 139 against United. J. Lawrence and Garrard each contributed 44. Midland were beaten on the first innings by 25 rnns. United, in their second iunings, lost five -wickets for 160 runs before time was called. Shns made 73 and Ollivier 39. Playing against Midland B, Lancaster Park A ran up 303 for the loss of six wickets, and declared their innings closed. Callaway made 74, North GT», Bishop 02, Orchard 42, and Boxshall 20. Midland, in their second venture lost eijrlrt wickets for 61. Prebfcle scored 36. Callaway took six wickets for 2V-runs. Lancaster Park won on the first innings by 128 runs. Sydenham made 136 against Lancaster Park B, and won on the first iunings by seven runs. Wigley made 72. In their second attempt Lancaster Park lost nine wii-kets for 109 runs.
