NEW ZEALAND BUTTER FOB JAPAN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHIUSTCHURCH, Saturday. The Taier'.-Peninsula Dairy Company today received a cablegram from Japar, covering an order for 3OOU cases of butter, to be delivered between February and April. The company's output Is practically sold till the end of March, but a special effort will be made to fill the order, at least partiaiiy. ANNUAL SHEEP RETURNS. WELLINGTON, Monday. Figures relating to the number of sheep and lambs killed by the various slaughterhouses and freezing companies of the colony duriug the fwr 1904 have been supplied to the Department of Industries and Commerce by Mr Eichelbaum, general manager for New Zealand of Messrs Oppenheimer and Co., of New York. The number of sheep killed In the South Island was 662456, chief contributors to this number being: Timaru 165,882, Islington 131,680, Belfast 86,557, Ashburton 77 065 and Watlacetown 44,254. The total shows a remarkable drop from figures In 1903, wheal 1,076,151 sheep were slaughtered The lambs killed in the Soutß Island numbered 1,498,593, as against 1.664,535 in 1903. Islington contributed 357,440 Ttmaru 317,849, Belfast £222,971, and Ashbnrton 212,222. the four Canterbury companies thus accounting for 73 per cent, of the total. In the North Island sKeep were killed —a decrease of 320,852 on ™ Tne Gear Company accounted for it 1,825, Wellington Meat Exporttt ComPafy 350,645, Nelson Brothers (Tomoana) 194,132, Freezing Works (Glsborne) 156----241, and Nelson Brothers (Glsborne) 126 - 297. In this island 620,304' lambs were killed, the leading figures being :—Wellington Meaj; Export Company 176,568, Gear Company 139,457. and Nelson Brothers (Tomoana), 91,075. The lambs show a decrease of 84,876 for tne whole Island. ThetoUU sheep killed for the whole colony was 2,160.749, snd lambs 2,103,587, belL ™ creases of 579,937 and 406,523 as compared with the totals for 1908. *' I
